Megaboom 4 Release Date Prediction

Megaboom 4 Release Date Prediction

This prediction considers the fact that Ultimate Ears did not release a new model in 2022, suggesting a possible two-year interval since then for the next release. We predict that the release could be in the summer or autumn of 2024.

The Ultimate Ears MegaBoom Line

Fans of Logitech’s Ultimate Ears speakers have experienced the quality of Bluetooth speakers and have been waiting for an update to the MegaBoom line for a long time.

Design

Ultimate Ears Boom Original

The speaker has a very eye-catching design thanks to its circular shape, modern appearance with two very large Volume keys. MegaBoom has a length of about 20 cm with a weight of less than 1 kg, can be easily moved, and has a waterproof design. It shares the same cylindrical design and styling, including the natty ‘plasma-coated’ finish, which UE claims is stain and water resistant. On the bottom, you’ve got a 3.5mm auxiliary input and a micro-USB socket for charging.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 2

UE Boom 2 has a beautiful design with a very large + / – logo, which is also the speaker’s volume key cluster. The overall speaker is a vertical cylinder with a speaker membrane surrounding nearly 90% of the area and the remaining area is a thick rubber layer.

This design gives the UE IPX7 water resistance – meaning users can drop the speaker into water at a depth of one meter for 30 minutes without any damage. In addition, the speaker also comes with a metal hook for users to hang up during use.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3

Looking at UE BOOM, one can immediately recognize the typical design of UE products, but there are a few notable points here. It’s not easy to notice because although it looks familiar, UE BOOM 3 receives very small but subtle tweaks. Gone are the designs of a plastic bumper in the middle of the speaker with a plus and minus button.

Instead, there is a thinner plastic strip running along the speaker body. The edges are more rounded, making the entire body look more like a soda can than the previous version.

Connect ability

Ultimate Ears Boom Original

The Megaboom employs Bluetooth Smart, which allows you to turn the speaker on and off remotely from the free UE app. That app also allows to pair two speakers together — or even pair the Megaboom with the original Boom. UE has equipped the speaker with longer-range Bluetooth, and depending on the device you pair with it, you can stray up to 100 feet away from the speaker and still stream audio to it.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 2

In particular, users can combine multiple UE Boom 2 speakers together for the same source to get a higher volume, stereo quality music playing system for places with large areas.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3

As long as you keep this speaker at a distance of less than 15m under normal conditions. The maximum connection distance can be up to 30m when there are no obstacles. Besides, UE also allows you to connect speakers together. You can connect up to 150 different UE speakers into one system, as long as they have the PartyUP feature.

Sound Quality

Ultimate Ears Boom Original

The Megaboom’s ability to disperse sound really stands out too, and you’re able to enjoy a decent spread from various positions. Even with this great expansion of sound, the UE still manages to keep its composure and focus. There’s solidity and precision through the bass, midrange and treble. It’s an enthusiastic listen, bristling with life. Music is well balanced, even if the very high-end isn’t the ultimate in refinement.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 2

Inside the speaker, the manufacturer has upgraded the high-quality music playback ability on the UE Boom 2 by integrating two 45mm active drivers accompanied by two passive radiators to create better bass. The volume of the speaker theoretically gives a loudness of up to 90dB and the audio frequency range extends from 90 Hz to 20 kHz. The sound quality of UE Boom 2 can be roughly assessed as balanced, with very good sound.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3

This speaker is small but its volume is very loud. Perhaps due to focusing a lot on this high volume, the sound of UE BOOM 3 does not really have depth. Bass is only at the background level, not really strong enough to listen to EDM or Deep House songs that require powerful bass. When listening to music with too strong bass, the uncontrolled bass range can be overwhelmed and obscure the mid range. Honestly, to do this sound range well, UE needs larger sized drivers.

BATTERY LIFE

Ultimate Ears Boom Original

On the plus side, once charged, you should be able to enjoy around 20 hours of uninterrupted playback, unless you need to take a phone call using the built-in mic. Press and hold both buttons and the speaker chirps up, telling you the percentage of battery life left.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 2

The other side of the UE Boom 2 is where the microUSB port and headphone jack are located – both of which are carefully covered by thick rubber pads. Play music day and night with up to 15 hours of battery life.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3

UE claims that the battery life on the UE BOOM 3 is 15 hours of continuous playback. But we tested at medium volume and the result was 8.3 hours. This is the weakness of this product, and we hope the next product will improve. Once again, UE made a small change that I found quite interesting: You can charge the UE BOOM 3 completely wirelessly with the Power UP charging dock.

Extra Features

Ultimate Ears Boom Original

You’ll need to download UE’s app for iOS or Android, which opens up all the speaker’s extra features such as the alarm clock function and “Double Up”. Double Up does what it says on the tin, and allows you to hook up two Megabooms together (or one Mega and one normal Boom) to listen in stereo. The app also gives you access to the UE’s sound settings.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 2

Ultimate Ears manufacturer also designed a Boom mobile application (two versions for HDH Android and iOS) to help users optimize speaker usage. The first is a specialized Equalizer that helps users balance the sound the speaker emits according to personal preferences. Next is the interesting Alarm mechanism that “turns” the Boom 2 into an alarm clock, ensuring that when used, it is difficult for anyone to continue sleeping.

Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3

The speaker body is wrapped in IP67 dust- and water-resistant fabric for a sturdy and friendly feel when holding. Didn’t encounter any difficulty holding the speaker even when it was wet. Even better, this UE BOOM 3 will float when dropped into water just like Wonderboom. Just a small feature added, but still very valuable.

Technological Advancements of Megaboom 4

Smart Personalization

Incorporating artificial intelligence into the design of the Megaboom 4 can lead to significant advancements in functionality and user experience. It could analyze the ambient sound and adjust the music accordingly, optimizing the sound for different settings like outdoor, indoor, or in a noisy environment.

Sound quality upgrades

We also hope Megaboom 4 will optimize the sound distortion when the speakers are turned up loud. Moreover, the lack of depth and sound frequencies for the listener to experience is truly memorable. The Megaboom 4 could incorporate improvements in bass performance and sophisticated audio technology for clearer, more powerful sound.

Suggested Maintenance

Using AI to monitor the speaker’s condition and predict maintenance needs. It could notify potential technical issues, battery health, or when firmware updates are needed. AI integration could also include features like monitoring sound levels to protect hearing or even detecting unusual sounds in the home for added security.

Who Is This Speaker For?

People who often go to the beach or go on picnics

Who likes the JBL Charge 4 but wants something more portable:

While the JBL Charge 4 is actually a very good phone for its price range plus some cool features, it’s still quite big. Although they are also designed with a stand and a neat shape, for carrying around a lot, the UE Megaboom 4 will still be more comfortable.

Price range prediction based on previous product launches

  • Ultimate Ears Megaboom: $300
  • Ultimate Ears Megaboom 2: $170
  • Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3:  $199.99

As the Bluetooth speaker market grows, Ultimate Ears might have lowered prices to appeal to a broader customer base in recent years. However, the next Megaboom 4 release, including new features, improved technology will mark the price around $200 to $300.

Conclusion

Megaboom 4 is sure to be a smashing success. Music enthusiasts are delighted since it is supposed to produce even better sound.  How long till we get it? Audiosk estimating that summer or fall of 2024 will be the tentative date. How much will it cost? Considering all of its capabilities, the price tag of $200 to $300 is reasonable. Looking forward to seeing if it lives up to the expectation!
